English Learning Method

As we know that English is the medium of communication for all people in the world. So it is not only written but spoken as well.  We can make a conclusion that learning the foreign language or the second language is needed habit formation, so English learners must practice a lot and continually for the foreign language they learn.

ENGLISH TEACHING METHOD FOR ELEMENTARY STUDENT

Most of the elementary teachers have not done the right way of teaching to the students.

They only teach the student to write and do the writing exercises and rarely practice and speak to each other.

Approach        :           This refers to theorist about language learning (Written English)

Method            :           A method is the practical realization of an approach (Spoken English)

Technique       :           A Common technique when using video and tape recorder programs.

GRAMMAR TRASLATION METHOD (GTM)

Grammar translation method is the unity between activities for grammar method and translation.

The students learn about phrases and non phrases that are for need to make a good sentence.

The translation method contains the translation activity texts that are done from the easiest to the most difficult sentence.

Reading Text:

Mr. Michael has a drugstore in New York and now he has just bought another store in Chicago. Chicago is only seven miles from New York, Mr. Michael cannot get a telephone for his new drugstore, so he has just bought thirteen pigeons. Yesterday, a pigeon carried the first message from New York to Chicago. The bird covered the distance in 5 minutes. Up to now, Mr. Michael has sent a great many request for medicine and other great message from one drugstore to the other. In this way, he has begun own private ‘telephone’ service.

I. Translate the following sentences into English.

1. Dimana Mr. Michael membuka apotiknya yang kedua? (present perfect)

2. Dimana lokasi apotik pertamanya? (present tense)

3. Berapa jauhnya dari New York? (present tense)

4. Dapatkah Mr. Michael menelepon apotiknya yang baru? (present tense)

5. Apa yang dia beli?

II. Question Words (formula of QW)

  1. Where + have/has + subject + verb3 …?
  2. Where + to be + subject …?
  3. How far + to be + subject …?
  4. Modal auxiliary + subject + verb1 …?
  5. What + have/has + subject + verb3 …?

Note:

To be: is – am – are

Have is used for subject (they – we – I – you)

Has is used for subject (he-she-it)

Question words (what-why-where-when-who-how far)

What ask about thing.

Why ask about reason.

Where ask about place.

When ask about time.

Who ask about person.

How far ask about distance

III. Write down the sentence using: what happened or what has happened (at least five sentences of each event)

IV. Give the correct of the verbs in brackets. Do not refer to the passage until you finish the exercise.

    This is just one of method we can use in teaching Reading Comprehension.
    One side students learn about the grammatical while develop their vocabularies.
    Something like that. Hehe..
